What is also known as a gateway address?

A gateway address is commonly referred to as a router address because it is the IP address of a router on a network that serves as an access point or a bridge to another network. When devices on a local network need to communicate with devices on a different network, such as the internet, they send their traffic to the router’s IP address. The router then forwards that traffic to its destination.

In network terminology, the router acts as a gateway through which data packets are sent to and from different networks. This is why the router address is synonymous with the gateway address. Other options, like localhost, DNS address, and subnet mask, serve different functions in networking. Localhost refers to the local computer, DNS addresses are used to resolve domain names to IP addresses, and subnet masks help define the network and host portions of an IP address, rather than facilitating the routing of traffic between networks.
